Nurturing, Innovation & Aspiration

Our topic this term is ‘Continents and Oceans’. This is a Geography based topic. We will be looking at the Continents and Oceans of the world and countries that are part of each continent. We will link this to prior learning from our Autumn Geography topic and discuss their weather and climate.
In Maths, we have focused on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers. We have looked at various methods when adding and subtracting, starting with concrete apparatus, moving on to a pictorial approach and then finally an abstract approach using numbers. We have been using a Maths Mastery approach to develop the learning and our problem solving skills. Below are some photos and video examples to show one of the methods we used when adding and subtracting numbers, this method is adding/subtracting using a empty number line. We are using this a mastery approach in Maths to embed and create more depth to our learning. We have used what we have learnt towards reasoning and problem solving challenges
In Science, we are learning all about Animals including Humans. We will look at offspring, lifecycles, a healthy diet, personal hygiene.
In PE, we will be working on Basketball and Dance.
In French, we are learning about ‘Numbers and Weather’.
In Computing, we we will be learning how find and present information. This unit introduces children to web browsers to explore and search websites safely, collecting and presenting information in graphs, and different ways of sorting and classifying data with databases.
Each half term, we ask the children to complete a range of activities from their homework grid. These tasks are a mixture of lots of lessons from throughout the curriculum and work is asked to be submitted through Seesaw.
Each week, children are asked to practice 10 spellings for our weekly quizzes on a Friday, these spellings are based on a range of spelling patterns and common exception words from the Year 2 curriculum.
Please see below our current homework grid for Spring 2 and the Spring terms spellings.
Remember to practice your addition and subtraction on Numbots, lets see if we can earn more coins than the rest of Amberley!
We update our Twitter page regularly so remember to check Twitter so you can follow what your child gets up to during school.
