Y3 Medium Term Plans and Knowledge Organisers Spring 2
Reading
In Year 3, we love reading and promote a continued love of reading every day. Children love to choose a book from our class library for free-reading time. Our class reader for this term is Leonora Bolt – Secret Inventor.
We are looking forward to some of the author visits/ events that we have coming up this year. Parents will be notified of any upcoming dates.
Year 3 loved our trip to the local library. We enjoyed discussing different genres of books, listening to a book and then choosing our own to take back to school. We also found lots of great books about our current topic, Active Earth!
Geography
Year 3 geography is an adventure into the amazing world around us!
United Kingdom: Cities and Counties
Children learn all about the UK, exploring its major cities, counties, and regions. They’ll discover the differences between human and physical features, how to read maps, and how to identify key landmarks. It’s a great way to understand where we live and how we fit into the bigger picture!Active Earth
This topic dives into the structure of the earth and corresponding natural disasters like volcanoes and earthquakes. Children will learn how these events happen, what effects they have on people and the environment, and where they are most likely to occur.The Living Planet – Biomes and Climates
Students explore climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts. They’ll learn about the plants, animals, and weather in each biome and how they all work together to create unique environments.
These topics make geography fun and help children understand the Earth, its features, and how everything is connected!
Maths
We have already delved deep into our maths learning this year! We are currently working hard on column addition and subtraction and will be moving onto our times tables soon.
To support your child with this, we recommend that you encourage your child to practice on Numbots and TTRS.
